itouch (no more pod) repeat

my 2004 original photo ipod died about a month ago. it had been slowly dyeing, turning off here and there, running out of battery very quickly, and then finally one day the screen of death appeared. a triangular warning sign next to an icon of an ipod with a frowny face in its screen. translation = i am dead. so for my birthday i was lucky enough to split the cost of the 32GB itouch with my boyfriend (such a sweetheart). and now i am in love and addicted (BAD). i recommend it if you are weary (or cheap like me) about paying the monthly cost for the iphone.

so now my ipod repeats will be my itouch repeats. this time around its Crystal Castles (named after She-Ra's fortress). electro pop beats with lots of deet deet deets. a couple songs reference music from super mario brothers while others are darker with echoing muffled lyrics.

STEREOLAB

an all time favorite of mine and my go to band when i need something to get me going, make me smile. their happy, uppity beats combined with airy, echoing vocals - in french and english - and a symphony of instruments, including violins and trumpets, are perfect company for a long sunny summer walk.

ladytron / the faint

i have loved these two bands since college so when i heard they were going to be at the metro this past weekend i had to attend. being a good fan i studied the week before the show, listening to new (to me) songs off their 2008 albums and catching up on their old but good ones.

ladytron came on first. the two lead singer chicks in front with their many synths and the four boys perfectly spread out behind them. massive panels of lights were their backdrop, flashing colors onto the crowd. their electro pop chords and hypnotizing vocals caused me to zone out and focus only on their beats. i was a bit disappointed when they played the entire version of 'playgirl' and 'seventeen', for at the end the chorus goes on and on drowning the crowd. they made up for it however with killer versions of 'witching hour', 'runaway', 'ghosts', and 'international dateline'. unfortunately i was reprimanded for recording since we were close to the stage so this is the only sound clip i got of ladytron's set.

we moved upstairs to the front of the balcony for the faint and had a much better view (and i was able to take more videos). the faint rocked hard. i must confess harder than ladytron. the faint's stage presence was more entertaining; their little skinny bodies moving all over. i was a bit wary at first since their new (2008) album was not as dark as their previous music but the few songs they did play off it were not terrible live. the light show was fantastic, blinding me at times. there were even warning signs on the doors saying "caution. intense strobe lights at tonights show" - intense, yes. i couldn't stop dancing and singing along especially when they played my favorite songs 'the conductor', 'worked up so sexual', 'glass danse' and 'the concert'. i must see them again and this time i must be in the front row.
